AWC is recruiting for a full-time Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to join our dynamic and fast-paced team. The successful candidate will possess a demonstrated ability to effectively articulate financial concepts and plans. Candidates should have a proven record of success as a senior financial leader in a complex organization.

What you'll be doing

The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) provides both operational and programmatic expertise to the organization and supervises the accounting and administrative support staff. The CFO is responsible for all financial aspects of the organization and all contracted financial service obligations. The CFO reports directly to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and directly assists the Deputy CEO/Chief Operating Officer (COO) on all strategic and tactical matters as they relate to budget management, cost benefit analysis, investment management, and forecasting needs. As a member of the Executive Team, the CFO is responsible for taking a leadership role and contributing to a positive organizational tone, culture and climate.

Other responsibilities include:

  • Develop work plans that support the AWC strategic plan for each program or service, and implement and execute approved plans
  • Participate in developing new business, specifically: assist the CEO and Deputy CEO/COO in identifying new funding opportunities, drafting prospective programmatic budgets, and determining cost effectiveness of prospective service delivery
  • Lead and manage all of the organization’s audit processes and audits of all contracted financial service obligations
  • Ensure adequate controls are installed and that substantiating documentation is approved and available so that all purchases may pass independent and governmental audits
  • Lead and manage all daily financial functions of the organization, including those related to all contracted financial service obligations
  • Supervise all aspects of the investment portfolio(s) of the organization and all other investment obligations to fulfill contracted services
  • Lead and coordinate all aspects of the organization’s budget and all other budgeting obligations related to the fulfillment of contracted services
  • Supervise all aspects of tax, employer/employee, and IRS reporting, and any other reporting required for the organization and contracted entities
  • Oversee business insurance plans, and in coordination with Deputy CEO/COO, ensure a disaster recovery plan is in place
  • Manage annual employee benefits renewal and enrollment, and all payroll functions
  • Serve as one of the trustees and oversee administration and financial reporting of the organization’s retirement plans
  • Monitor services and work products of financial consultants and vendors and assure the successful outcome of deliverables
  • Oversee the maintenance of the inventory of all fixed assets, including an office building
  • Participate in and supervisor all governance financial reporting obligations
  • Prepare materials for Board and Committee meetings, act as lead staff for audit committee; travel to attend meetings and present financial reports

What you bring to the team

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, business or related field with at least seven years of progressively responsible senior level financial management experience
  • Certified Public Account (CPA) is preferred. A Masters degree is a plus
  • Extensive knowledge of GAAP, GASB, FASB, SAS, GAAS rules, not-for-profit, and required IRS Form 990
  • Ability to effectively lead and provide oversight of all financial management of the organization and contracted services for the Employee Benefit Trust and Risk Management Service Agency
  • Working knowledge of state regulations affecting self-insured risk pools, HIPAA laws, and federal reporting of VEBA Trust
  • Knowledgeable in actuarial concepts and insurance claims development
  • Ability to make clear and concise presentations to and work with boards of directors and advisory committees
  • Ability to work effectively as a team member and colleague by modeling the organization’s high standards of quality customer service to all internal and external customers
  • Ability to effectively supervise and manage a diverse team of staff members involved in a variety of activities
  • Skilled at leading and managing projects
  • Ability to make effective decisions and to act independently in managing and coordinating assigned duties
