The City of Covington is seeking an Administrative Assistant who will provide comprehensive administrative support to the Finance, Public Works, and Community Development departments. The position requires a detail-oriented individual with strong organizational skills and the ability to handle advanced level tasks effectively. This will include data entry and coordination; billing oversight; financial transactions and reporting; As well as department-level municipal contract tracking and reporting, special projects such as organizing events, drafting surveys; assisting with presentations; and addressing public inquiries as directed. This is an FLSA-covered non-exempt position where work performed beyond 40 hours in a single work week (Monday through Friday) is subject to overtime pay, as long as it has the prior approval of the supervisor.

Education and Experience:
Minimum Criteria:
Any combination equivalent to: High School Diploma or GED, with coursework in secretarial procedures, management, or public administration. Two (2) years of relative experience. Intermediate level or higher skill with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook. Any equivalent combination of experience and training which ensures the ability to perform the work may substitute for the above.

Preferred Criteria: (In addition to Minimum Criteria)
One (1) year of the minimum required experience in an administrative assistant capacity or position with equivalent experience, preferably in a municipality; two (2) or more years of municipality experience demonstrating knowledge of city government functions, policies, rules, and regulations; and a basic understanding of accounting principles.

Special Requirements:
• Successful completion of a pre-employment national criminal background check and reference check.
• Possession of a valid Washington State driver’s license, or the ability to obtain a Washington State license within one month, with a satisfactory driving record.
• Proper documentation to fulfill the requirements of the Immigration and Nationality Act within three (3) days of employment is a condition of employment with the City of Covington.
