Description

The City of Bremerton Engineering Division:
Our division provides a full range of service to the community including Transportation Planning and capital project delivery, Water, Wastewater, and Stormwater planning and capital project delivery, and Development Services. Currently due to COVID staff are both working from home and in the office as work allows. This position may continue to have some flexibility in this regard in the future.

Our division is currently seeking applicants to fill two vacant Engineering Technician III or IV positions, one in Utilities and the other in Transportation/Development Services. These position will be filled at a Tech III or Tech IV level depending on the successful applicants’ qualifications.

The hiring range for this position is: $32.36 - $42.56per hour (DOQ). This  salary includes longevity (1% earned after five years and increases to a maximum of 4% after 20 years). Additionally, a cost of living adjustment of 2.50% has been approved for 2024.

BENEFITS AND ADDITIONAL COMPENSATION:

Employer contributions to the State Retirement System pension plan; 13 days of paid vacation per year (increases to a maximum of 26 days per year with years of service); 11 paid holidays per year; one paid floating holiday of your choice per year (after six months of employment); 12 days of paid sick leave; wellness program; employee assistance program; and medical, dental and vision coverage.  The Position:

The Engineering Technician works within the Engineering Development Services group and provides service at the permit counter assisting customers, completes permit reviews, and conducts field inspections. This position is responsible for processing permit applications for Right-of-Way and utility permits, reviewing Right-of-Way permit applications, preparing supporting documentation, and conducting field inspections. The work also includes reviewing utility availability for development projects, reviewing construction and traffic control plans for completeness, and coordinating with other City staff to ensure permits are being processed efficiently.
This position is a regular full-time, Fair Labor Standards Act non-exempt position. The regular work schedule for the Engineering Technician is Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. The incumbent in this position is not a Civil Service Member.

The Ideal Candidate:
The City of Bremerton is seeking an Engineering Technician with exceptional customer service skills that can effectively communicate, on the telephone and in person, with engineers, contractors, developers, staff members, and the general public. The ideal candidate must possess any combination of education and experience equivalent to an Associate Degree in Engineering and 2-4 years of relevant field or office experience. The qualified applicant should have strong organizational skills. Prior permitting experience is a plus.
