POSITION SUMMARY: This position assists in communication and marketing activities with an emphasis on developing digital communication products. Responsibilities include brainstorming, developing, editing and producing videos, graphics, and multimedia content for the city website, social media platforms, and cable access channels. Duties include drafting posts and monitoring social media platforms, photographing city events, updating website content, assisting in scheduling the management of cable programing, and assisting with writing and/or creating communications and marketing products as needed. The nature of the work performed by this class follows established procedures and general directions but requires expertise in specialized equipment and software applications; incumbents operate independently and apply established guidelines and alternatives to make routine judgments and decisions.
EXAMPLES OF JOB DUTIES: Other duties may be assigned as needed. 1. Designs, edits and produces city-related communication products in a variety of formats including electronic, social media, web, and print used for communication plans and marketing strategies. 2. Creates professional quality city-related video content including storyboarding, script development, shooting, editing and producing. 3. Maintains social media editorial content calendar, regularly generates and schedules approved posts, helps monitor social media platforms, drafts posts, and flags potential issues or trending topics for potential response. 4. Monitors digital usage trends to maintain engagement with targeted audiences. 5. Photographs and/or captures video of city-related functions and special events. 6. Assists with maintaining and updating content for the City’s website. 7. Assists with gathering relevant program and project information from staff for inclusion in the City’s newsletters, website, social medial pages, cable access channel, and other communication sources. 8. Provides creative support for external and internal communications efforts. 9. Works with other departmental staff as needed to design, produce, distribute and present public informational material and presentations. 10. Assists with development of cable television channel bulletin board content. 11. Produces graphic and/or editorial content for newsletters, fliers, brochures, and other products. 12. Assists with evaluating and managing video, digital photo, and audio file archiving practices including integration with the city’s enterprise content management system. 13. Assists with writing, copy editing and proofreading of written and/or graphic content. 14. Assists with special projects as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS: A combination of the experience, education, and training listed below which provides an equivalent background to perform the work of this position. Experience: Two years of experience working directly on video production and managing social media. Experience with Adobe Creative Suite software and the use of digital cameras and digital video camera equipment. Graphic design and website management experience preferred. Education and Training: Associate’s degree in visual communications, graphic design, journalism, public relations/marketing or related field.
Licenses or Certificates: Must possess, or have the ability to possess within one month of hire date, a Washington State Driver’s License.

This position works a regular schedule, however, incumbents will be required to work some evening or weekend hours to attend public meetings or other events.
