GENERAL PURPOSE OF JOB: The Administrator functions as a general manager of the Senior Activity Center and is responsible for overall management and leadership for client and community services, outreach, promotion activities, and supervisor of employees/volunteers. Oversees operations and activities including planning, organizing, scheduling, supervising, and directing the efforts of staff, community groups, and volunteer activities. Coordinates with Parks & Recreation Director and Recreation Manager to offer programs to seniors outside of the Center and develop intergenerational activities at the Center. Assists with the management of programs and staff in a manner that ensures expenditures remain within budget guidelines. Develops relationships with staff, other departments and community groups that encourage participation, teamwork, effective relationships and use of resources. Exercises independent judgment in analyzing problems, issues and situations; develops and implements recommendations. LEVEL OF AUTHORITY: Direct supervisory responsibilities over volunteer staff, part-time and full-time employees. Implements policies and programs with demonstrated sound management and professional judgment. Error in judgment could have substantial financial implications and could affect public acceptance of programs, protection of confidentiality, personnel, facilities, and services. WORK ENVIRONMENT: Work is performed in the Senior Activity Center office or program areas. Position requires ability to attend occasional meetings outside regular work hours, including evenings and weekends, and to be available for emergency call-outs. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCITIONS: Coordinates and schedules center services, such as special events, recreational programs, trips, wellness, information & assistance referral, foot care and other activities. Plans, organizes and implements the Center’s programs by identifying the interest, and needs of older adults. Prepares schedule of corresponding programs and services. 11. Maintains participation reports, progress reports and additional information as needed for the completion of various federal and state grants. Submits purchase orders, reports and deposits revenue. 12. Coordinate and act as liaison with Senior Services of Skagit County, and other health care, social service, adult education, and senior organizations. Serve as an advisory and/or leadership capacity to committees, task forces and community groups. Coordinate and network with a variety of community and government agencies or groups. 13. Actively works with the ASAC Foundation to develop goals and research development plans. QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s Degree in Gerontology, Human Services or related field, and two years’ experience managing and coordinating the operations of a senior center: OR an equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted which provides the skills, knowledge and abilities to perform the essential functions of the position. Required licenses/certifications and other requirements: Must possess a valid WA State Driver’s License. Knowledge of: The principles, practices and philosophy of senior social services and of community resources regarding these services. Lead and supervise employees and volunteers in a manner conducive to efficient and effective work performance and positive morale. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, volunteers, participants, City officials, the media, various committees, groups and agencies and fund-raining sources to provide premier customer service. Ability to maintain a balanced perspective, notwithstanding exposure to aging, grief and loss. Requires normal visual and hearing acuity, manual dexterity, repetitive motions of hands and wrists. Ability to stand and walk throughout the facilities for extended periods and to move equipment and furniture not to exceed 50 lbs. frequent sitting or standing.
