Description

Major Responsibilities

Leadership and Direction

  • Embraces, promotes, and models the City’s Vision and Values.
  • Under the Mayors’ direction, is responsible for the day-to-day operation of the City. As such, performs all duties normally associated with that function.
  • Has a cordial and professional working relationship with City Councilmembers.
  • Works closely with the City Leadership Team, which includes all department heads.
  • To the extent possible, anticipates and mitigates challenges before they become major problems.

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • The City Administrator is ultimately responsible for the performance and behavior of all City employees. Exercises authority through department directors and generally defers to their judgement.
  • A key responsibility of this position is high level oversight of the City’s finances to assure fiscal stability and sustainability of the organization and all its functions.

Personnel Management

  • Participates in labor relations through contract negotiations and grievance resolution.
  • Ensures all employees are evaluated annually.
  • Ensures job descriptions are current and accurate.
  • Works closely with the Human Resource Manager on personnel matters.

Education & Experience

  • A Master’s degree in public administration or a related field is highly preferred. Bachelor’s degree with a combination of work experience will be considered.
  • At least seven years of progressively responsible experience in municipal government with at least five of those years in senior management.
