The City of Everett is currently accepting applications on an open/competitive basis for the Civil Service examination process for Permit Development Counter Technician with the Everett Public Works Department.

This is specialized work acting as technical contact at the permit counter. Those in this classification coordinate and dispense information relating to a wide range of building and development processes and procedures.

The work involves responsibility for various activities relating to initial review of building and other permit applications, issuance of permits, fee collection, maintenance of related records, and issuance of certificates of occupancy. Employees in this class provide detailed procedural information about these processes to the public and play a critical role in communicating the City's image as they carry out the division’s functions. Incumbents deal routinely with competing and sometimes conflicting needs of clients, staff, and citizens, and must, therefore, have effective public relations and communication skills. The work assignments are made in general terms and the employees are expected to exercise initiative and judgment in carrying out duties and responsibilities. ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

  • Two years general office support work experience in a construction/architecture/building/real estate permit related environment, which included dealing directly with the public OR two years vocational or college level training in a related technical field and some technical work experience which included dealing directly with the public.

EXAMINATION STEPS

  • Supplemental Questions are blind rated independent of application and resume and weighted 40%.
  • Oral Panel will take place approximately late November or early December 2020 and weighted 60%
  • All vacancies in this job class will be filled from the ranked Civil Service parent and supplemental registers established from the examination processes.

IMPORTANT NOTES

  • A passing grade of 70.00 or higher is required on all parts of the screening process for placement on the ranked Civil Service eligible register.
  • The examination process is designed to sample and measure the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities.
  • Applicants claiming veterans’ preference points in accordance with RCW 41.04.010 as amended and meeting eligibility criteria must submit form DD214 or other official military separation documentation that clearly indicates an honorable discharge from military service on or before the date filing closes.
