WWTF Mechanic/Operator job in Ellensburg

The City of Ellensburg has a vacancy for a Mechanic / Operator at our Wastewater Treatment Facility.

Repair, maintain and troubleshoot a variety of electrical motors, pumps and gas equipment, gasoline engines, electronic control systems, and hydraulic equipment. Perform a variety of semi-skilled and skilled maintenance and repair work, utilizing welding, fabricating, mechanical and electrical skills. Operate the facility when assigned to fill vacancies resulting from leave scheduled by the regularly scheduled facility operation staff.

Monitor treatment plant and lift station equipment for proper operation and maintain/repair equipment as needed; read and understand maintenance manuals, diagrams, and blueprints; troubleshoot equipment as required to ensure operation according to manufacturer’s specification; maintain accurate records of routine checks on equipment including work performed and resulting condition

Determine need for spare parts and new equipment; research new equipment and determine desired equipment specifications; perform price/quality comparisons and purchase equipment; install mechanical and electrical equipment

When assigned provide assistance in the operations functions and operate the facility; provide assistance to collection crew in flushing, jetting, rodding, inspections, locates, construction and repairs of sewers and storm sewers; provide assistance to other divisions as needed; serve as acting foreperson when assigned; perform on call/call outs as rotation requires; maintain public relations; attend weekly safety meetings

Perform repair and maintenance work on irrigation, buildings, grounds, and associated systems; resolve problems of high-water level, power outages, lift stations failures, pumps and motor failures

This position is represented by Teamsters Union, Local #760.

Qualifications:

Two- year certificate from college or technical school; or two to four years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Certified by Department of Ecology as WWTP Class II operator within three years of employment. Must maintain certification. Valid State Driver's license required with Commercial Driver's License endorsement preferred. Employee will be required to have a CDL within 6 months of employment at the expense of the employee with the option to borrow the expense of training from the City with a signed loan agreement; maintain insurable driving record; Flagger Certification; First Aid/CPR; Forklift Certification.

Special Requirements:

The City of Ellensburg is required by federal regulation to administer a testing program for controlled substance and alcohol use for employees required to have and maintain a CDL. This position is covered under the City of Ellensburg Substance Abuse Testing Policy.
