Description

The City of Renton is looking for an experienced GIS Manager for our Administrative Services department. This position will lead a team of GIS Analysts that focuses on the daily activities and operations of the City's Geographic Information Systems. The ideal candidate will have the following education and experience:Bachelor's degree in GIS, Geography, Computer Science Engineering, or related field, or GIS Professional Certification5-8 years of progressively responsible experience administering and supporting GIS platforms and softwarePublic sector GIS experience highly preferred2 years of supervisory experience in a similar role

JOB SUMMARY:
Considered a working manager, oversee a workgroup with direct reports. Plan, administer, maintain and oversee the City’s Geographic Information Systems (GIS). Manage employee performance, coach, mentor, and discipline; terminate in conjunction with a superior. Monitor and maintain a designated budget. Determine how to ensure department/strategic goals are implemented. Policy development, updates, interpretation, and administration.

Reports to: Information Technology Director
Supervises: GIS Analyst I, II

  • JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
    Plan, organize and manage daily activities and operations of the City’s GIS, overseeing the development and maintenance of GIS platforms and data infrastructure to support GIS applications in order to meet the needs of all City departments.
  • Recruit, hire, train, recognize, promote, coach, mentor, develop, evaluate, and discipline the performance of assigned staff. Terminations handled in conjunction with a superior.
  • Delegate/assign, prioritize, review, and ensure timely completion of duties of assigned staff.Assist in establishing and implementing the goals of the division or department.
  • Evaluate GIS operations to improve customer service, productivity and efficiency, and resolve work-related complaints and issues that cannot be addressed by staff.
  • Provide technical and policy information to the public, and meet with complainants to resolve GIS problems and maintain positive relations.
  • Prepare and control budgets, control and approve expenditures and capital purchases, monitor, prepare and submit periodic budget updates, and monitor assigned performance measures.
  • Administer, maintain, and organize the physical resources of the GIS system (hardware, software, licenses, files, databases, and other related items) to deliver GIS related information to staff; coordinate Citywide GIS requirements.
  • Determine structure of GIS programs, databases and related software to ensure smooth transfer of data between City departments and to external customers.
  • Develop and prepare technical documentation to describe preparation of GIS programs, databases and related software for us by all County organizations.
  • Analyze and evaluate industry trends and new developments to integrate best technologies into GIS systems; analyze short and long term strategic problems and develop solutions.
  • Arrange for professional services for Planning/Surveying/Building/Public Works division and other departments; coordinate mapping and surveying projects within the department.
  • Train and assist GIS users; provide technical guidance and support for the user group and departmental staff on GIS systems, applications and procedures; provide guidance, instruction, and interpretation on the uses of GIS data.
  • Remain current with relevant technological advancements as it relates to field.
  • Maintain regular, reliable, and punctual attendance, work evening and/or weekend hours as assigned, and travel as required.
