Description

Did you know Bellevue currently operates and maintains 205 traffic signals? The traffic management group is responsible for the safe operation and maintenance of the transportation system. This group consists of signal technicians, street maintenance workers, plan reviewers, and traffic engineers. We are looking for a Crew Chief that is self-motivated and team-oriented to join our team. You will be responsible for repair, maintenance, and inspection of traffic signals, street lighting systems, and pedestrian signals.

Your day-to-day work will be inspecting and locating for the traffic signal and street lighting, Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) and communication systems. You'll also be responsible for developing and maintaining our record keeping system, implementing short- and long-range programs, selecting, hiring and managing work of contractors as needed when the scope or magnitude of work is beyond the capabilities of the traffic signal shop.

**If you possess a Journeyman Electrician Certificate (EL01) and four years of experience as a journey level electrician you may be eligible for an additional 2.5%.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Personnel management, including participation in hiring, monitoring, scheduling vacations, and documenting performance issues and identifying training needs. This does not, however, include resolution of grievances.
Ensures compliance with city, county, state, and federal regulations.
Maintains a clean, safe work environment.
Monitors work order records for all completed projects.
Scopes out projects before assigning to crews.
May enter service work requests and physical infrastructure information into maintenance management system.
Coordinates schedules and assigns work, orders supplies and tools.
Participates in plan and project review.
Responds to and resolves citizen and customer complaints.
Analyze and diagnose problems and performs repairs as required.
Assist Engineers with plan reviews, material submittals attend pre-construction meetings.
May respond to customers and coordinate staff activities with other divisions and departments.
Program management; planning, scheduling, assigning and monitoring work.
Strong communication skills both written and verbal.
Leadership problem solving and critical thinking abilities.
Ensures that performance measures and standards for program(s) and projects are met; monitors performance; guides staff in adjusting program administration and strategy to ensure that standards are achieved.
Required to respond to emergencies on a 24-hour basis. City personnel have a duty to report when emergencies impact the health, safety, and/or mobility of City residents.
QUALIFICATIONS:
KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES & SKILLS and Competencies:

Extensive knowledge of electrical circuitry, Traffic Signal, ITS and Street lighting systems.
Thorough knowledge of National Electrical Code, Washington State Administrative Code and City of Bellevue Standard plans and Specifications.
Ability to deal effectively with Contractors, Engineers, Designers, City staff and the public
Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills sufficient to manage self and others.
Computer aptitude and interest and/or training as it relates to this position.
Clear and concise written and oral communication.
An ability to work with numerous interruptions.
An ability to set priorities and meet deadlines.
Excellent customer service skills.
An ability to operate specialty truck and/or trailer combinations, a wide variety of hand- and power-operated tools, and electronic test gear.
Working knowledge of construction and project management.

EDUCATION, EXPERINCE, AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS
Four years of experience as a journey level electrician after obtaining an EL01 certificate preferred but is not required.
Five years' experience as Traffic Signal Electrician or has the qualifications as a journey level electrician.
Possession of a current, valid Washington State driver's license and a good safety and driving record.
Possession of an IMSA Level II Certification as a Signal Electrician, or the ability to obtain within 1 year.
Possession of a Washington State Traffic Control Flaggers Card, or the ability to obtain within 6 months.
Must have or be able to obtain a Washington State Class B Commercial Driver's License and valid medical card, within 1 year of employment.
Selected candidates must pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol test (consistent with Federal Laws requiring drug and alcohol testing of all job classifications requiring a CDL).
In-house applicants who do not currently possess a CDL will be subject to the pre-employment drug and alcohol test in accordance with DOT rules and regulations.
Must pass a criminal background check upon hire.
