Announcement of Qualifications for Interim County Administrator

The long-time County Administrator for Washington County is retiring and will be leaving at the end of the calendar year. The Washington County Board of Commissioners (the Board) is seeking an external candidate to serve as the Interim County Administrator while a recruitment process is underway for the County Administrator. The anticipated duration of the Interim County Administrator assignment is no longer than six (6) months.

For this Interim County Administrator assignment, the County seeks a professional city or county executive who has served in local government, overseen local government staff, and has demonstrated experience working closely with an elected governing body. The Board is seeking someone knowledgeable about local government in Oregon and can provide support to Washington County department heads and administration staff members.

The Interim County Administrator is appointed by the Board and will:

Serve as the point person for the Board of Commissioners to ensure the Board’s requests and priorities are addressed in a timely manner.Rely on the leadership and expertise of the organization to address the Board’s requests and priorities.Work closely with the County Administrative Office leadership team to keep County operations on track during a time of transition.Have experience with major projects and governing body initiatives and tracking progress.Not expect to make any major changes but will help identify issues that may need attention by the next County Administrator.

Requirements include a bachelor’s degree and experience at an executive leadership level in city or county government as a department head, manager/administrator, or assistant manager/administrator or similar executive position. The person selected for this position will not be an applicant for the permanent County Administrator position. Experience serving in a local government in the metro Portland area, Oregon local government, and/or experience serving as an interim administrator or manager are preferred, but not required.

The salary is negotiable for this short-term interim position.
