Under the direction of the Transit Operations Manager, the Transit Operations Supervisor ensures that bus service is provided in an efficient manner and as scheduled without interruption. Responsibilities include responding to citizen complaints, monitoring the performance of employees, and investigating incidents and events. Work is reviewed by observation and through evaluations of reports and projects. Supervision is exercised overall operating staff, including Bus Operators, Paratransit Operators, Paratransit Schedule Technicians, Maintenance personnel, and Transit Inspectors. ILLUSTRATIVE EXAMPLES OF WORK: Conduct performance evaluations of bus operators and paratransit operators to assess basic vehicle operation, safe driving skills and overall job performance. Review and discuss with the employee the skills required for optimal job performance. Recommend additional training or retraining as necessary. Effectively and appropriately deal with questions or complaints from citizens regarding service or employees, including investigation and recommendation of appropriate remedies. Serve as department Emergency Operations Center liaison by attending meetings and participating in drills and training exercises. Assist in the development, administration and training of the department's emergency management plan and procedures. Review and respond to employee incident reports. Review events and collisions and determine preventability. Make recommendations regarding training and discipline as appropriate. Assist the City Safety Division in investigating, compiling and analyzing on-the-job accident and safety data; develop and implement remedial measures. Investigate workplace injuries which may require the review of personnel records and other materials of a confidential nature. Perform body mechanics and ergonomic reviews and recommend remedial measures. Perform related work and special projects as assigned. HOW TO APPLY
