Position Summary

As an accomplished attorney with experience in state and federal labor and employment law, you will work closely with other attorneys, clients, and staff providing legal advice related to personnel law and Human Resource matters.

You will have the opportunity to serve as a key advisor for Pierce County Human Resources and to share your expertise on issues related to labor and employment law and litigation.

How to be Successful in this Role:

We are looking for an attorney who has strong litigation skills and exercises independent judgment, initiative, and resourcefulness in providing employment law advice to Pierce County departments. You will perform duties with professional discretion and within Office guidelines, professional ethics and standards, and legal requirements. The ability to work under pressure with tight timelines, perform daily risk analysis, and collaborate with clients and colleagues are essential skills for this position.

Core Daily Responsibilities and Requirements:
In addition to providing legal advice related to labor and personnel law and HR matters, you will represent Pierce County in labor arbitrations and mediations, and hearings before the Public Employment Relations Commission (PERC). This position is not included in the Pierce County Prosecuting Attorneys’ Association.

Our work requires a solid understanding of state and federal labor and employment law applicable to public employees, along with:

Knowledge of Washington public records law
Demonstrated legal advocacy skills, both written and oral
Strict adherence to the Rules of Professional Conduct
Experience successfully litigating matters related to labor and employment
Experience providing client advice on labor, employment, and human resources
The ability to manage multiple cases and projects simultaneously

Qualifications
Minimum Requirements

We are hiring a County Attorney 3 or 4 depending on experience and qualifications.

County Attorney 3: Salary $111,153.71 - $146,156.56
Five or more years of legal experience in the relevant area of practice. Must be admitted as an attorney in the State of Washington and a U.S. Citizen or lawful permanent resident (RCW 36.27.010, RCW 36.27.040).

County Attorney 4: Salary $129,180.64 - $166,380.28
Eight or more years of legal experience in the relevant area of practice. Must be admitted as an attorney in the State of Washington and a U.S. Citizen or lawful permanent resident (RCW 36.27.010, RCW 36.27.040).

Both Positions Require:
Relevant experience as a licensed attorney advising public or private sector clients on topics regarding labor, employment, and/or human resources issues.

Relevant Experience litigating labor, employment, or human resource matters in court, before the Public Employment Relations Commission, in binding arbitration, and/or before the Equal Employment Opportunities Commission.
