Police Captain job in Ellensburg

The City of Ellensburg is accepting applications for Police Captain. The Ellensburg Police Department currently has two Police Captains and after serving EPD for 27 years, one of our Captains is retiring.

This position ensures that the community receives reliable, responsible, and respectful service through carrying out the goals and objectives of the Police Chief.

In the absence of the Chief of Police, the employee may assume responsible control of the Department, perform the duties, and exercise the powers incidental to the office of the Chief of Police. Provide a variety of complex analytical, administrative, and technical work in the development of programs, services, policies, and procedures to devise the most efficient and effective methods of accomplishing the work of the Ellensburg Police Department.

This is a full-time benefited position. Benefits include medical, dental, vision, life, and disability insurance. Retirement under the Washington State LEOFF Retirement System, VEBA, Paid Time Off (PTO), holidays, exempt leave, and employee choice days.

Salary: $10,320 - $11,676/month – FLSA Exempt

QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
• Must have a minimum of ten (10) years’ experience as a certified Peace Officer
• Must have held the rank of Sergeant or above for a minimum of forty-eight (48) months immediately preceding application, as a commissioned officer with a Municipal, County, or State law enforcement agency with general law enforcement authority

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
• Must possess, or be able to obtain by time of hire, a valid Washington State Driver’s License without record of suspension or revocation in any state
• At time of hire possess Basic Law Enforcement Training Certification with current and valid Washington State Peace Officer Certification granted by the Washington State Criminal Justice Training Commission (WSCJTC) or be able to obtain Certificate of Equivalency as defined by WAC 139-05-210 within one year of appointment
• Must currently possess or successfully obtain Mid-level Managers Certification granted by WSCJTC within one year of appointment.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
• Applicants must agree to credit check and be in good credit standing having no debts currently assigned to collections with a history that reflects no pattern of credit instability. The applicant must not have a pending garnishment or judgment which may cause undue hardship while employed with this agency, with the exception of child support. The hiring authority shall determine the status of applicant’s credit history on a case-by-case basis.
• Must have ability to meet the Department’s physical standards.
• Must have no felony convictions or disqualifying criminal histories.
