Description

The Senior Traffic Engineer performs complex and professional engineering work for traffic and transportation projects and programs ensuring technical competence and compliance with all current local, state and Federal standards, codes and criteria.

This position also reviews private development traffic impact studies for compliance with City standards and performs traffic concurrency analysis and review. This position investigates traffic operation concerns and issues identified by City staff, citizens, and other agencies and assists in the preparation of street system maps, data bases, comprehensive transportation plans, and transportation improvement programs. This position is a full-time position.

Education and Experience:

The Senior Traffic Engineer requires Graduation from a four-year college or university with a degree in civil engineering or a closely related field; and minimum of five (5) years previous professional civil engineering (PE) experience including at least two (2) years of traffic or transportation engineering experience; previous supervisory experience desired.

An equivalent combination of related education and experience may be considered.

Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Thorough knowledge of traffic/transportation engineering principles, practices and methods as applicable to a municipal setting; thorough knowledge of applicable City policies, laws, and regulations affecting Division activities.  Considerable skill in arriving at cost estimates on complex projects; skill in operating the listed tools and equipment.

Must possess a valid State driver’s license or have the ability to obtain one prior to employment.  Registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) required; PTOE certification desirable.
