Description

Why Alderwood Water & Wastewater District?

WATER FOR LIFE, FOREVER

The Alderwood Water & Wastewater District’s (AWWD) mission is to provide clean, reliable water and wastewater services for a healthy community. As an organization we strive to build and maintain a system that will function for the next 100 years and beyond. We protect the natural environment, conserve water resources, and provide critical services, every day. Spanning 45 square miles in southwest Snohomish County, the District is the largest special purpose water/wastewater District in the State of Washington.
The District recently adopted a new five year strategic plan that outlines the following strategies: serve you today, plan for tomorrow, protect our water supply, manage our information and our physical assets, and build a learning organization. Our staff are engaged in updating the tools and methods we use to serve a growing community more efficiently and effectively.

The District offers a competitive and comprehensive benefits package that includes medical, dental, group term life insurance, short term and long term disability coverage, State of Washington PERS 401(a) retirement plan participation, a deferred compensation match program, a commute reduction incentive, and a wellness incentive.

The Opportunity: Maintenance & Operations Superintendent

The Alderwood Water & Wastewater District seeks an experienced water and/or wastewater leader to supervise and oversee day-to-day operations of assigned areas within the Maintenance and Operations (M&O) Department. Reporting directly to the M&O Director, the Superintendent is responsible for the management of all water distribution and wastewater collection systems as well as District facilities. This individual will supervise, direct, and mentor six Field Operations Managers and a SCADA/Electrical Manager.

The M&O Superintendent must have a strong understanding of the operation and maintenance practices of public water and/or wastewater systems. Past experience operating, maintaining, or administering systems that include equipment such as mains, lines, lift stations, pump stations, reservoirs, tanks, meters, valves, and related equipment is essential to be successful in this position.

The individual selected for this position will both have the necessary field experience and be capable of providing motivational leadership. Job candidates will be expected to show they can lead others toward common goals by creating and maintaining high employee morale and a safe and trusting work environment.

The successful candidate will be a clear and authentic communicator capable of representing the District in front of community groups, industry/professional associations, elected officials, and the general public. They should have exceptional customer service skills and a strong ability to solve problems and develop creative solutions.

The M&O Superintendent needs to have strong persuasion skills as an advocate for the maintenance needs of the District. This position is responsible for coordinating the Department budget process while ensuring that the necessary equipment and resources are available and that staff is well trained. The successful candidate will work in cooperation with capital projects staff to ensure that maintenance needs are being addressed in the comprehensive plan, and that infrastructure is being constructed and developed with long-term maintenance and operational needs in mind.

The ideal candidate will have multiple years of experience supervising and overseeing the maintenance and operations of water and/or wastewater systems for a special purpose district, municipality, or other public entity. Experience in both water and wastewater is preferred but not required. Job candidates should have experience in like-sized or larger organizations that contain multiple employee divisions that manage and perform work on a diverse range of programs and functions.

The individual selected for this position will be committed to public service and understand processes and procedures related to public administration and finance.
