Description

The VRFA is seeking highly qualified candidates to fill the position of Deputy Fire Chief. The VRFA provides critical fire and life safety services to the approximately 92,000 citizens residing in the 37 square miles of Algona, Auburn, and Pacific. Oversight of the VRFA is provided by a nine member Board of Governance which consists of the Mayor and two council members from each participating City.

This is a confidential, exempt, full-time position. Under the direction of the Fire Chief, the incumbent is assigned to and responsible for the efficient administration of their assignment within the Valley Regional Fire Authority (VRFA). Through effective management of available human, financial and material resources, this position plans, budgets, directs and completes related
operational and administrative functions in accordance with professional and legal standards, resolutions, and VFRA policies and procedures. This is an overtime-exempt position.

Work is characterized as senior management level work, working closely with the Fire Chief in the development of short and long-range goals and objectives for providing services. The incumbent is required to exercise keen independent judgement and discretion, vision and foresight in making administrative and management decisions. 

Required Education:

Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited program
preferred. Four (4) years of command level experience equivalent to
Battalion Chief or above preferred;

OR, any combination of relevant education, training, and
command level experience preferably in a fire department of comparable size or complexity that would demonstrate the individual’s knowledge, skill, and ability to successfully perform the essential duties and responsibilities listed above.
