Description

The City of Gig Harbor is seeking a Human Resources Assistant to support the day-to-day operations of serving the public by providing payroll and general human resources support. The ideal candidate will have experience with a variety of payroll and human resources functions, working in a busy fast-paced environment, which requires a high attention to detail and accuracy, promptness, and the ability to prioritize multiple duties. They will also need to have the ability to maintain and organize digital and physical filing. We are looking for an individual who models the way, a team player focused on serving others, accustomed to follow-through, following up and helping others reach the goals of the city, which may or may not be directly related to their day-to-day assignments. Required Education & Experience: 

  • High School Diploma or GED; and 
  • Two (2) years of full-time payroll and human resources support experience in a busy, high functioning, human resources office environment; and
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite; and 
  • Demonstrated sensitivity and understanding of diverse backgrounds; and
  • Experience in providing strong solution focused customer service; OR
  • Any equivalent combination of experience and education may be considered.

 Preferred Education & Experience:

  • Previous experience processing public employees’ payroll. 
  • Previous experience using Springbrook. 
  • Prior payroll and/or human resources experience working for a public / governmental agency. 
  • Experience with FMLA, PFML, LNI, and other protected leave. 
  • Proficient computer skills: experience working within financial / payroll systems, applicant tracking systems, website updates, and online advertising. 
  • Associate Degree or certificate in Human Resources or Payroll.
