We have an exciting opportunity to join the City of Renton's dynamic Human Resources & Risk Management team in the Benefits division. This position will manage a team of three and oversee the City's benefits programs. The ideal candidate will have excellent communication, customer service and problem solving skills, as well as experience in the following areas:
- Managing benefits programs
- Vendor and contract management
- Creating and administering leave policies & procedures
- Working with health and deferred compensation boards
- Knowledge of retirement programs, particularly PERS and LEOFF

This position reports to the HRRM Administrator and supervises Benefits/Senior Benefits Analysts, and Specialist positions.
Some of the essential functions of this position include:
- Provide leadership and serve as the subject matter expert on the City’s benefits programs, to include but not limited to, self-insurance and fully insured health plans, life and disability, retirement savings, leave programs, Workers’ Compensation, Employee Assistance Program, and wellness.
- Manage vendors and contract administration for City’s benefits programs.
- Evaluate, research, and implement improvements in program design as necessary. Provide ongoing strategic planning and development to ensure best practices, employee satisfaction, and cost saving strategies.
- Conduct research and benefit surveys, evaluate services, coverage, and options available through insurance and investment companies to determine which programs would best meet the needs of the City.
- Evaluate and monitor the financial performance of the plans, as well as employee satisfaction.
- Prepare and control healthcare fund budget, control and approve expenditures, monitor, prepare and submit periodic budget updates, and monitor performance measures. Prepare and provide regular reports and financial performance updates to leadership, including the City Council.
