Description

Under the direction of the assigned supervisor, the incumbent performs professional level planning functions to administer, lead and coordinate complex work programs, grants, special projects, reviews and studies related to state, regional, and local natural resource management, and land use development. The incumbent leads coordination across functional areas of the planning process such as, natural resource management and ecosystem recovery, state salmon recovery, climate change, Local Integrating Organization and Lead Entity, or preparation and updating of legislation, policies and development regulations applicable to natural resources. The incumbent performs research, development, and implementation of assigned natural resource efforts or projects.

The Planner classification is distinguished from the Associate Planner classification by the greater degree of technical knowledge and expertise, responsibility for technical, administrative and public policy elements of the department’s work program and the comprehensive knowledge of a functional area of planning.

Work assignments are performed with general and limited technical instruction and require considerable independence in the selection of courses of action and resolution of complex or unique problems within the framework of department policies and procedures under limited direction. The incumbent will work closely with other natural resource staff, Department Divisions and other County Departments, agencies, tribes, and non-profit organizations.

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor Degree in Planning, Environmental Science or Natural Resources Management or closely related field from a college or university accredited by an agency recognized by the US Department of Education AND four years of progressively responsible technical or professional work experience in the interpretation and enforcement of land use and/or natural resources programs, regulations and/or current and long-range planning or community programs, which includes program coordination/administration and public contact experience; OR
  • An equivalent combination of experience and education which provides the applicant with the desired skills, knowledge, and ability required to perform the work
