Description

Incorporated in 1911, Sandy was named for the nearby Sandy River and serves as the western gateway to Oregon’s iconic Mt. Hood. Situated in the foothills, west of the Cascade Mountain Range, Sandy’s climate is mild and the recreational opportunities unlimited. In the summer, residents enjoy hiking, camping, backpacking, mountain biking, kayaking, fishing, and whitewater rafting. In winter months, the rain falls as snow on Mt. Hood, creating the perfect high-alpine mountain setting for skiing, snowboarding, and snowshoeing.

The City of Sandy is looking for a Public Works Director who will provide forward thinking leadership to the mission of bringing the City's largest public infrastructure projects to fruition. Reporting to the City Manager, the Public Works Director manages a biennial budget of $48.4 million and nine full-time employees including three direct reports, an Assistant Public Works Director (new/vacant), an Engineering Technician, and a Public Works Crew Leader. Areas of responsibility include engineering services, transportation infrastructure, water and wastewater treatment, distribution and collection systems, stormwater management, and related public infrastructure.

“Where Innovation Meets Elevation” illustrates Sandy’s commitment to transforming the way they do business as a City. From their nationally-recognized high-speed fiber optic broadband internet service to their world-class transit system, Sandy Area Metro (SAM), the City continually strives to deliver excellence in programming and services for its residents. The ideal candidate for this position will model these core values and be a hands-on leader who thrives in a fast-paced, high performing organization.

The minimum educational requirement for this position is a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in civil engineering, construction management, architecture, public administration, or a closely related field. A master’s degree is highly desirable. At least five years of progressively responsible experience in public works, engineering or construction management, and supervision of professional, technical, and trade staff is also required. Preferred requirements include a professional engineer license and 10 years of progressive experience including leadership/supervisory experience in a municipal setting.

The annual salary for this position will be market competitive and dependent upon qualifications. The range for those who possess a Professional Engineer (PE) license is $101,887 - $132,682. The range for candidates without a PE license is $96,201 - $125,279.
