Essential Job Functions
- Conducts routine lab tests and quality assurance in a safe and efficient manner.
- Collects, processes and analyzes wastewater samples following prescribed procedures.
- Ensures compliance with the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permit and process control procedures.
- Enters and maintains accurate, complete and up to date records of analysis and test results.
- Evaluates data, analyzes trends and prepares technical reports.
- Calibrates and maintains lab equipment and instruments.
- Maintains WA Department of Ecology lab accreditation and participates in lab audits.
- Ensures the lab quality assurance program meets accreditation standards including proficiency testing, program manual updates and control charting.
- Stays current on regulatory agency policies as they affect Publicly Owned Treatment Workers (POTW) and accredited laboratories.
- Maintains inventory of lab supplies and chemicals. Prepares reagents and testing solutions. Orders lab supplies.
- Collaborates effectively with WWTP staff and provides support for their lab related duties. Promotes safe and knowledgeable lab use. Responds to inquiries in a timely manner.
- Maintains an organized, clean and safe work environment.
- Adheres to established safety procedures and utilizes safety equipment as required.
- Maintains current documentation of procedures and tasks to explain position responsibilities.
- Creates, updates and implements process improvement procedures, tasks, workflows and systems.
Qualification Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED. Associates degree in chemistry or biology preferred.
- Two (2) years of experience conducting lab tests in a wastewater activated sludge treatment plant or six (6) quarters/ four (4) semesters of college laboratory science courses in chemistry and biology.
- Current WA State Driver License.
