The Anacortes Fire Department is an All-Hazards Department staffed by 25 career firefighters as well as a part-time volunteer force, which operates out of three stations and responds to approximately 4,000 calls annually. Career staff work a 48/96 schedule and are supplemented by volunteers who fill 12-hour daytime shifts.
Firefighters are involved with fire suppression operations and provides Emergency Medical Service (EMS). Many of the calls respond to emergency medical care.
Candidates must have current paramedic or EMT certification in Washington State. Requires a minimum of one year experience as a paramedic or EMT. Candidates must have satisfactorily completed firefighter I and II training at the Washington State Fire Training Academy or an equivalent career level firefighter training program and become certified by International Fire Service Accreditation Congress (IFSAC).
Must possess a valid Washington State Driver's license. Must satisfactorily complete Emergency Vehicle Incident Prevention (EVIP) course and maintain certification.
Selection Process A civil service process including an oral board 35%, written competency test 32.5%, and medical simulation event 32.5% will be used to establish an eligibility list. More details following position closing date.
