General Services Director job in Olympia

The City of Olympia, Public Works Department is looking for an energetic, visionary and effective leader to fill the position of General Services Director. This is a full-time position that will work under the general direction of the Public Works Director. The position is a member of the Public Works Leadership Team and requires a leader with a high degree of emotional intelligence who models working collaboratively with others.

The General Services Director is responsible for a staff of 29 employees and oversees the administration of a variety of programs within the Public Works Department. These include Facilities Operations, Fleet Operations, Clean Team Operations, Contracts and Procurement, Public Works Dispatch, Safety and Emergency Management. The General Services Director is responsible for managing several operating and capital budgets, totaling over $10 million annually.

Required Education/Experience

• Graduation from an accredited college or university with a four-year degree in Public Administration, Business, Engineering, or other field closely related to Public Works, and four years of progressively responsible experience in the management of Public Works projects, programs, and activities, including at least two years of supervisory experience is required.
• Additional qualifying experience may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.
• Municipal or other public sector experience is preferred.
• Must possess a valid Washington State Driver's License.
