The Opportunity: Field Operations Manager The Alderwood Water & Wastewater District (AWWD) is seeking an approachable, ethical, and driven leader for a Field Operations Manager position in the Maintenance and Operations (M&O) Department. Located in the fast-growing Puget Sound region, AWWD is focused on the expansion, maintenance, and replacement of its critical infrastructure. AWWD currently employs 147 employees and the Field Operations Manager will lead a team that is responsible for maintaining and operating water/sewer infrastructure. The position reports to the M&O Superintendent. The successful candidate for this position will supervise employees in several classifications including utility workers, water quality technicians, Cross Connection Technicians, Pre-treatment inspectors, Facilities mechanics, and/or buildings/grounds workers. Under the direction of the Maintenance and Operations Superintendent, the Field Operations Manager will plan, direct, evaluate, oversee, organize, manage, supervise and coordinate activities in an assigned area that may include the maintenance and operation of the water distribution system, water quality system, water meters, the wastewater collection system, facilities, fleet, and/or buildings and grounds. This position is charged with coordinating activities with other divisions, outside agencies, contractors, and the public. The Field Operations Manager will work cooperatively with other managers and District staff to manage all projects related to assigned work areas. This position is subject to 24-hour call out. The ideal Field Operations Manager is a problem solver with the capability to look at how things operate and identify changes that can increase the efficiency and the effectiveness of their work group. The successful candidate will be an excellent communicator who can build trust with their work group, customers and the public and is willing to listen to new ideas. Candidates should have a supportive and participatory leadership style but be capable of adapting depending on the situation or individual employee they are working with. The successful candidate will have the functional knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite products including Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams and PowerPoint. They may possess any equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform the job. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be five years of progressively responsible experience in the maintenance, repair, and operation of a public utility or water and sewer district and a high school diploma. The Field Operations Manager must possess and maintain a Valid Washington State Driver’s License, Industrial First Aid Card. The preferred candidate will currently possess a Water Distribution Manager III Certification and a Wastewater Collections II Certification, and the selected candidate will be required to obtain these certification within one year of appointment. In the supplemental questionnaire candidates will be required to state how they will be able to meet the requirements to obtain the Water Distribution Manager III Certification and a Wastewater Collections II Certification within one year of appointment. The pay range for this position is $85,654 - $114,795 annually, with a starting pay range of $85,654 - $99,174 dependent upon experience and qualifications.
