Description

Position Description
The City of Bothell, WA, is seeking a Senior Planner who is passionate about making a positive difference in our community and who:

  • has experience and skills you want to enrich in a dynamic, progressive environment
  • embraces diversity, equity and inclusion and can build relationships with communities
  • wants to know your work makes a difference and that it’s recognized and appreciated
  • thrives in a collaborative, fast-paced, sometimes intense environment and still maintains a sense of humor

If this describes you, then let’s talk about your future with Bothell!

Out of state candidates welcome. If you understand and uphold the principles of growth management and environmental sustainability you can learn WA statutes. Senior planners manage complex, high-profile projects with sound technical expertise, good political judgement, and the ability to collaborate with multiple interests. Duties include developing and maintaining scope, schedule and budget; anticipating issues and challenges; engaging diverse interests, including historically underrepresented communities; and obtaining approvals of boards, commissions and council.

Strategic Planning is comprised of two senior planners and a part-time historic preservation consultant all reporting to the department director. Our small but mighty team is at the forefront of important community issues (e.g. growth, affordable housing, redevelopment). We enjoy working with the community and take pride in our customer service and collaborative approach.

Bothell values work-life balance. You will enjoy the Pacific NW lifestyle with ample time off, alternative work schedules and a robust benefits package including medical, dental, vision, life and disability insurance, state pension membership, deferred compensation, and tax-favored accounts! We encourage professional growth through involvement in associations, conferences and training.

Additional Information
COVID-19
During the COVID-19 emergency Community Development employees are telecommuting 4-5 days per week at least until January 1, 2021. The successful candidate will be provided with a lap top and other tools necessary to be able to work from home. It is expected that while in training this individual will need to be at our City Hall location with other CD staff periodically. The City has adopted a COVID-19 Exposure Control Plan that requires employee self screening, masks, social distancing, and certain sanitation procedures, that all employees are required to follow while in a City office building or work location. After COVID-19 it is expected that CD staff will return to work at City Hall. Part-time telecommuting options (1-2 days per week) may still be available at that time. The City also has a comprehensive alternative work schedule policy (9/80s, 4/10s, etc.) that many Community Development Department staff utilize.

Recruitment Process:
We will accept applications until the position has been filled. The deadline to be included in the first review of applicants is 5:00 PM on Friday, October 23. It is expected that a first round of virtual interviews will take place Thursday, November 5 and/or Friday, November 6. Contact Ann Bouizgard, HR Business Partner, if you have questions concerning this position or the recruitment process. Candidates are strongly encouraged to submit BOTH a cover letter and resume as part of the online application process.
