JOB SUMMARY:
Under general supervision, inspects buildings and enforces building, fire and life safety codes; provides information on applicable codes, fire prevention techniques, fire hazards and related topics; performs studies and prepares reports as needed.

Performs a variety of professional fire and life safety responsibilities for the community with an emphasis on community risk reduction.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

High school diploma/GED and two (2) years’ experience performing building or fire code enforcement. Associates Degree from an accredited college or university may substitute for required experience.

Successful candidates must pass a psychological exam, and a background screening regarding applicant's aptitude, character, judgment, credit, driving record and criminal history.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND/OR CERTIFICATES:
Must possess and maintain a valid Washington State Driver’s License. Must possess and maintain a valid fire code certification from the International Fire Code Institute, International Code Council (ICC) and an Emergency Vehicle Accident Prevention Certification within 120 days of hire. Must possess and maintain First Aid/CPR certification within six (6) months of appointment.

Current Washington State Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) is preferred and will be required after hire. Other preferred certifications include Instructor I & II; Public Fire and Life Safety; Public Educator I; Fire Investigation Technician; National Fire Academy Applications in Community Risk Reduction; and National Fire Academy Best Practices in Community Risk Reduction. These certifications (or equivalencies with approval) will be required through ongoing professional development.
