JOB TITLE: Information Systems Technician DEPARTMENT: Administrative Services REPORTS TO: Information Systems Manager FLSA CLASSIFICATION: Exempt
PRINCIPAL PURPOSE OF JOB: Performs a variety of Information Systems (IS) development, maintenance and support functions with minimal supervision. Responsibilities include design and management of City data and voice communication system, administration and technical support of the city’s computer network and client-server software, and coordination of IS training and presentation resources.
LEVEL OF AUTHORITY: Performs routine duties independently, setting priorities and scheduling own work in accordance with established and general policies and procedures requiring regular interpretation. Is responsible for sound judgment, thoroughness and competence, where failure to perform effectively and efficiently could have serious impact on municipal operations, public relations and the efficient use of resources.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: The Information Services Technician works in an office. Mobility sufficient to visit any City location is necessary. Work is performed under pressure involving deadlines, work flow disturbances and/or irregular work schedules. This position supports several locations, many which operate 24 hours and may need this position’s support during non-regular work hours. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge of
Technical knowledge of voice communications and data networking systems.
Technical knowledge of microcomputer hardware and operating system software.
Understanding of word processing, spreadsheet, database, electronic mail, and scheduling software, maintenance and repair.
Technical knowledge of Windows Server 2012, 2016 and 2019 DNS, Active Directory and Azure AD.
Operation and configuration of local and wide area networks.
Network server administration standards and practices.
Troubleshooting and problem solving protocols.
Data and voice communication security issues.
Standard computer languages and programming practices.
Standard office practices.
Ability to

Education and Experience: Any equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the applicant with the knowledge, skills and abilities required. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
Individual may be required to attend schools/workshops on a yearly basis to maintain skill level necessary to carry out position responsibilities.
Must possess a valid WashingtonState driver's license.
PHYSICAL:
Requires good hand-eye coordination, arm, hand and finger dexterity, including ability to grasp, and visual acuity to use a keyboard, operate equipment and read technical information.
