Description

Association of Washington Cities (AWC) is recruiting for a full-time Claims Specialist for the AWC Workers’ Comp Retro Program to join our dynamic and fast-paced team. The top candidate will be highly organized, detail oriented and have strong customer service skills.

What you'll be doing

  • Analyze and manage medical-only claims by investigating and gathering information to assist the employer in achieving positive claims outcomes
  • Coordinate claim activity with attending providers, vocational counselors, attorneys and L&I claim managers through well-developed action plans to an appropriate and timely resolution
  • Maintain concise yet comprehensive notes/diaries in claims management system, including all applicable documentation, accurate coding and ancillary paperwork
  • Monitor reserve adequacy throughout the life of the claim if applicable
  • Communicate claim action/processing with appropriate parties including, but not limited to: employer, state agency, claimant and appropriate medical providers
  • Preserve professional member relationships
  • Act as back-up to others on the team, as needed

What you bring to the team

  • Associates degree in business, or related field desired
  • Three years’ experience in claims management preferred
  • Working knowledge of workers’ compensation claims administration or adjudication, state and federal statutes/regulations/codes, and general insurance and risk management practices and principles
  • Effective skills in resolving claims
  • Skilled communicator with the ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing to internal and external parties
  • Ability to work as a member of a team and to collaborate on program initiatives
  • Ability to juggle competing demands between long-term projects and emergent needs
  • Ability to meet deadlines and complete assigned tasks in a timely manner
  • Ability to establish creditability and manage confidential and time-sensitive material
  • Ability to plan, organize and prioritize multiple diverse work tasks for self and others
  • Ability to model the organization’s high standards of quality customer service to all internal and external customers
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Professional and have the ability to learn and use a wide variety of proprietary software
