Our new City Administrator is a strategic thinker who easily sees the big picture and long-term vision for the Camas. The successful candidate understands and appreciates public service and truly values a sense of community. The Administrator is an effective communicator and proactively keeps elected officials, staff, and the community well informed on projects and initiatives. Considered a true community ambassador, the successful candidate leads by example and is fully invested in Camas’ growth and success.

The successful candidate has a strong history of developing effective relationships and partners with the Mayor and City Council to provide sound advice and guidance as necessary. The City Administrator brings highly developed communication skills and maintains objectivity in working with elected officials. The ideal candidate is confident, yet humble, and diplomatic with a willingness to push back as needed. With strong emotional intelligence, the City Administrator represents Camas with integrity and effectively advocates for the City at all times.

The City Administrator brings forward strong executive leadership skills and proven expertise in change management. The ideal candidate brings a fresh, yet experienced voice and perspective to City initiatives with a proven ability to move projects forward. With a financial mindset, the successful candidate has an appreciation for continuous improvement and uses data and analytics to drive decisions. Knowledge of economic development, public safety, and labor relations would be valuable, as would experience with a variety of communication tools including social media. Additionally, the City Administrator embraces technology and innovation and utilizes both to drive efficiency.

The City Administrator naturally develops positive relationships, establishes a high level of trust, and enjoys being an active member of the community. They maintain an understanding of the issues affecting Camas and leverage that knowledge to drive decisions. A natural convener and collaborator, the City Administrator recognizes the importance of relationships and partnerships at all levels and has a history of engaging in effective, meaningful communication with business and community leaders, key stakeholders, and regional partners.

A highly effective leader, the City Administrator creates a solid organizational foundation by developing strategy, setting goals, providing clear expectations, and holding others accountable. The ideal candidate leads and empowers staff and supports professional development and succession planning. An active listener who values honesty and integrity, the City Administrator genuinely encourages and supports collaboration and believes in fostering respect at all levels.

The City Administrator has at least seven years of progressively responsible experience in municipal government, including five years of administrative or leadership responsibility. A well-rounded background with prior experience in a similar size organization that includes public safety is ideal. An exceptional ability to develop effective relationships with a history of working closely with a Mayor and City Council is essential. A sound financial background with a strong understanding of budgets and financial management is required.

Equivalent to a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in public administration, business administration, or related field. An advanced degree in public administration or related field is desired but not essential.
