Description

The City of Redmond is actively recruiting for an energetic, detail oriented, community-minded leader to be our Deputy Parks Director. This position supports the City's mission, vision, values and strategic plan initiatives, and works alongside the Parks Director to develop and implement department-wide goals, objectives, policies and priorities. The Deputy Parks Director oversees the Recreation Division and Customer Engagement within the Parks and Recreation Department, and in collaboration with the department director, indirectly oversees Park Operations and Maintenance, Park Planning and Facilities.

ROLE & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Coach managers and supervisors to consistently use performance management techniques; ensure assigned staff correctly supervise, regularly evaluate, recognize, and discipline staff; and conduct consistent staff meetings and 1:1 check-in meetings with direct reports; Respond to and resolve issues of concern regarding department operations, projects or programs; Establish, implement, and monitor short and long-range business plans, manage and participate in the development and implementation of goals, policies, and priorities; and recommend, revise, and administer policies and procedures; Direct the preparation of biennial preliminary budget recommendations for the department; analyze and review budgetary and financial data; develop purchasing and budgetary policies and guidelines; and control and authorize expenditures in accordance with established limitations; Monitor and enhance customer service initiatives to respond to and support an ever-changing diverse and multi-cultural community; Serve as a representative on a variety of boards, commissions, and committees; prepare and present reports and other necessary correspondence; Serve as the acting Director in the director's absence; make decisions and provide information, as necessary. Subject to 24 hour emergency call-back.

QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor's degree in business administration, parks and recreation, park administration or a closely related field. Eight (8) years of increasingly responsible experience in parks and recreation operations, planning, and programming. Three (3) years management/supervisory experience. Experience working with a diverse community with multi-cultural backgrounds. Performance management, change management, High Performance Organization (HPO), Lean, or equivalent type of organizational development experience. Budget management and enterprise cost recovery experience. Grant writing experience. Master's degree preferred. Public Sector experience preferred.

Licenses and Requirements:

Valid Washington State driver's license. CPR and First Aid certification within six (6) months of hire.
