Description

Environmental Services Division of Public Works, Water Resources is looking for a qualified and motivated environmental professional to assist with the implementation of the Storm and Surface Water Utility's mission to improve water quality.

This position will provide, primarily field support, for several different programs that are designed to reduce and/or eliminate pollution before it enters the City's stormwater system and/or receiving waters of the State. These programs include, but are not limited to, Stormwater Facility Maintenance Inspections, Business Pollution Prevention (Source Control) and Illicit Discharge Detection and Elimination.

 

Ideal Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate for this position should have:

  • Four year college or university degree in Civil/Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, and/or another relevant and applicable field.
  • Two years experience with implementing stormwater programs, such as Private and/or Public Maintenance Inspections, Business Pollution Prevention (Source Control) and Illicit Discharge Detection and Elimination (IDDE) program experience is preferred.
  • Specific experience implementing stormwater programs as described above, May substitute for the degree on a year for year basis.
  • Technical competency using computer databases and managing data in a spatial environment using GIS is preferred. 
  • A passion for environmental protection.  Applicants should be able to describe their passion for environmental protection through their work and/or personal experiences.
  • Ability to communicate technically complicated information, both verbally and in writing.

 

Experience/Education

  • Four year degree in Civil and/or Environmental Engineering, Construction Management, Environmental Science or a closely related field is preferred.  (Specific applicable work experience may substitute for the degree on a year for year basis.)
  • Two years related experience required. (applicable graduate school work/advanced degrees, may qualify as a substitute for all or a portion of the required two years experience).
  • Specialized certifications in Stormwater and/or Environmental Science related fields are a plus.

 

Special Requirements

Must possess a valid Washington State Driver's License at the time of appointment.
