Recruitment Description: The City of Ellensburg has a vacancy for a Collection Serviceperson who will perform a variety of semi-skilled and skilled maintenance procedures on the City's storm and sanitary sewer system. Maintain collection lines; inspect flows of lines indicated and clean as needed; determine cleaning process and operate hydraulic jet to remove foreign material; operate hydraulic root saw to remove roots from main line; perform rodding by mechanically pushing hook or blade through line to remove roots or foreign material blocking water flow; flush foreign materials from the main line Utilize TV to detect infiltration, locate taps, and inspect condition of lines; record information on computer hard drive and copy to DVD Install main line; verify utility locations and materials needed; inspect blueprints; lay out job from cut sheet with the proper grade and off-set; shoot and maintain grad; inspect line with water or air to assure a sealed system; drill and install saddle and measure and map location Perform connection test to assure contractor compliance to pipe installation plans; take measurements and place on map; drain pipe and make final connections for approved installations; forward map to foreperson to ensure permit issuance Research maps to perform locates; mark direction, depth, and location of storm and sanitary sewer lines Document and record sewer back-ups in log; report patterns of trouble spots; file information for access to history; annually update maps of main lines Assist in seal coating process by flagging, signing, and/or shoveling; cover all utilities access ports that are present and uncover the access ports after seal coating is complete Perform on call/call outs as rotation requires and resolve problems relating to high water level, power outages, lift station failures, pumps, and motor failures; operate heavy equipment in the installation of underground utilities; provide assistance to other employees and public works divisions as needed; act as foreperson when assigned; maintain public relations and assure public and worker safety during maintenance and construction activities; attend weekly safety meetings; assist with snow removal This position is represented by Teamsters Union, Local #760. Regular City of Ellensburg employees (applicants) covered by Teamster’s Local Union #760 will be given first consideration Qualifications: High school diploma or general education degree (GED), and two years experience in operation of heavy equipment including backhoe and laying pipe. Valid State Driver’s License required with Commercial Driver’s License endorsement preferred. Employee will be required to have a CDL within 6 months of employment at the expense of the employee with the option to borrow the expense of training from the City with a signed loan agreement; maintain insurable driving record; flagging card; First Aid/CPR; Asbestos handling; forklift certification; trenching and shoring. Special Requirements: The City of Ellensburg is required by federal regulation to administer a testing program for controlled substance and alcohol use for employees required to have and maintain a CDL. This position is covered under the City of Ellensburg Substance Abuse Testing Policy.
