The Camas Police Department is seeking a Code Compliance Officer. The individual selected for this position will work under the supervision of the Administrative Sergeant. The position is full time, Monday-Friday from 8am-5pm and is represented by the Camas Public Employees’ Association bargaining unit and is covered under Civil Service Rules.

Primary duties this individual will perform include a variety of technical duties relating to the City’s municipal code enforcement programs in support of the Police Department and the Community Development Department. Primary duties are the enforcement of the City’s ordinances. Further duties include enforcement of zoning codes, signs and nuisance abatement; to conduct field inspections to ensure compliance with applicable zoning, safety and nuisance codes, ordinances and abatement regulations; to research, investigate, and resolve code violations through public education, enforcement or other means; and to perform a variety of technical duties relative to assigned areas of responsibility.

Candidates for this position shall have:
• Education equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade supplemented by formal law enforcement, public or business administration experience, or experience in a related field, plus two years of increasingly responsible code enforcement, investigative or public relations experience. (Experience in a technical, community oriented, administrative support, or other capacity in law enforcement, social services, or emergency services is desirable.)
• Possession of an appropriate, valid driver’s license.
• Technology skills including intermediate MS Office skills (Excel, Word).
• Ability to be granted and maintain a “limited commission” for the purposes of enforcing State and local laws.
• Ability to pass state and federal background checks for security clearance including extensive background check and polygraph examination.
In addition, the preferred candidate will possess the following attributes: excellent customer service skills, good verbal and written communication skills, excellent computer skills, demonstrated organizational and decision making skills, ability to work with all sectors of the community - public, private, business, schools, and citizens, flexibility to work non-standard hours as needed, and the ability to work under the stresses and emotional strains of law enforcement.

IMPORTANT TESTING INFORMATION
• A written test will take place at 9am, Saturday, November 2. Location TBA.
• Details regarding the testing process will be sent on October 30 to those applicants selected to advance.
• Applicants MUST be able to attend the test and oral interview if invited to continue in the process.
• The candidates with the highest 22 scores will move onto the oral panel interviews to take place November 6-7.
• There is a required $20 testing materials fee which will be collected the day of the test.
