GENERAL STATEMENT Plans, organizes and manages Administrative, Patrol Operations and Support Services and/or programs consistent with the Department’s mission, core values, and department policy. Performs a variety of routine and complex public safety work in the performance of law enforcement activities. QUALIFICATIONS • Any combination equivalent to a bachelor’s degree in the field of Criminal Justice, Public Administration, or related field, or over three years’ experience as a Sergeant, Captain, Commander, or administrative position with a Police Department is desired. • Seven years’ experience in a municipal Police agency. • Possess a Washington State First Level Supervision Certification. • Obtain a Washington State Mid-Level Management Certification within one year of appointment. • Working knowledge of police operations, administrative services, and management. • Must be able to analyze situations and adopt a quick, effective, and reasonable course of action, especially under conditions which are psychologically and emotionally stressful. • Must be able to communicate effectively with people who are in physical or emotional stress. • Must have the ability to determine priority of customer needs and follow up on them. • Must be able to consistently demonstrate tact, courtesy, reliability, and maturity while carrying out assigned duties. • Must successfully pass a criminal history background check and be able to pass the City’s security clearance standards for unescorted access to certain City facilities.
