If so, Come Lead with Us by joining the County Administrative Office and Board of Commissioners as the next Director of Land Use and Transportation!

The County is recruiting for a new Director of Land Use and Transportation. This position requires someone with extensive senior management experience guiding successful programs in the areas of land use and transportation and working with political, business and community leaders.

The ideal candidate will have experience in more than one of the following: land use planning and community development, transportation policy development and implementation, capital project management, and transportation system maintenance. He or she must communicate effectively both orally and in writing, work constructively with diverse interests and have experience solving problems in a challenging environment.

The ideal candidate must demonstrate a history of progressive, proactive and innovative program development and administration and a track record of successful follow-through and implementation. Critical to success is the ability to be an empowering leader and motivator who is open-minded, ethical, honest and accountable. The individual in this role must be enthusiastic about public service and exhibit superior quality traits such as:

Education and Experience:
A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

  • Bachelor's Degree in the field of civil engineering, architecture, urban and regional planning, economics, transportation, public administration, business administration, and/or closely related field; AND
  • Ten (10) years of progressively responsible experience in a large, complex transportation, land use, or public works program including at least five (5) years of which were in a supervisory or management capacity. OR 
  • Master's Degree in the field of civil engineering, architecture, urban and regional planning, economics, transportation, public administration, business administration and/or closely related field; AND
  • Eight (8) years of progressively responsible experience in a large complex transportation, land use, or public works program or engineering including at least five (5) years of which were in a supervisory or management capacity.
