Description

The City of Covington is seeking an experienced and highly motivated professional eager to positively influence the quality of life and aesthetics of a young, dynamic city and its neighborhoods. As the Covington’s Principal Planner, the successful candidate will be responsible for a mix of current and long-range planning. They will be accomplished in a diverse range of skills that include analysis and problem solving, policy generation and revision, complex permit and development review, creation and/or coordination and monitoring of the departmental budget, and supervision of subordinate employee(s). Critical attributes of the successful candidate include exceptional written and verbal skills, as well as comfort in making presentations in a public forum. Education and Experience: A Bachelor’s Degree in Planning, Geography, Architecture, Landscape Architecture, or Environmental Sciences. Ten (10) years progressively responsible professional municipal planning experience with a focus in planning, site design, project management, and environmental review. AICP Certification(s). An advanced degree or equivalent professional development certifications in the related fields is desirable. A different, yet equivalent, combination of education and experience than the aforementioned that effectively demonstrates the ability to successfully carry out the requirements of the position may be considered.

Special requirements: Valid Washington State Driver’s License with a driving record free of serious or frequent violations. Acceptable results from a nationwide criminal background check. Proper documentation to fulfill the requirements of the Immigration and Nationality Act within three (3) days of employment is a condition of employment
