Assistant City Manager opportunity in the sunny, wine-country of Central Washington!

The City of Yakima is looking for an Assistant City Manager to be a leader, mentor, and team contributor; someone who is visionary, yet practical.

The ideal candidate will work effectively and collaboratively with the City Manager, Department Heads, and other City staff to find strategic solutions to issues faced by a full-service city. Candidates must possess outstanding interpersonal and communication skills while being open and approachable. Customer service should not be just a catch phrase but rather, along with integrity, a core principle.

The Assistant City Manager works under the general direction of the City Manager, and in accordance with municipal management principles, City ordinances, City Charter, and applicable local, state and federal laws. The incumbent will need to exercise considerable discretion and skill in handling daily activities and responsibilities assigned by the City Manager, making independent decisions on operational issues, managing and evaluating the effectiveness of technical operations, monitoring implementation of the City budget, coordinating special projects and activities for departments, and ensuring that the City's programs are implemented in a manner consistent with the City goals and policies.

 

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, Political Science, Public Relations, or a closely related field (Master's Degree preferred in allied field); PLUS five (5) years of progressively responsible municipal and/or private administrative management experience as a Department Director or other administrative officer.

Must possess and maintain a valid Washington State Driver's License.

Must pass background investigation regarding applicant's aptitude, character, judgement, credit, driving record and criminal history.
