The City of Monroe is currently recruiting for a Senior Planner for the Parks and Recreation Department. This position will perform a variety of complex and independent duties associated with the acquisition, planning, design and construction of park capital projects. Work is characterized by high level complex research and project planning and oversight of Parks capital improvement projects, and is performed under limited supervision. Incumbent is responsible for compliance with local, regional, state and federal regulations, and City goals and objectives; preparing specifications, contract documents, cost estimates, and recommendations regarding materials and equipment; administering consultant and construction contracts; construction administration and oversight, presenting reports and reviewing various plans and designs for capital improvement projects; acquiring land, obtaining easements and securing permits necessary to implement projects; pursuing grants; assisting Director in developing long term park and trail improvement strategies; and communicating with the public, elected officials, developers, outside agencies, and other employees within various departments of the City, and planning and coordinating tasks for projects as assigned. Planning and construction projects underway for 2021 include a 5-acre park land acquisition for a new neighborhood park, development of two lighted, multi-use synthetic turf athletic fields at one of our community parks, design and install new park wayfinding and entry signage and update of our Parks, Recreation & Open Space (PROS) Plan.
