Under the direction of the Executive Director, this position is responsible for advising and administering the diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) programs and resources across Metro Parks Tacoma (MPT) District. The position will provide advice and consultation to MPT Departments on equity and inclusion principles and practices; provide strategic technical guidance and policy direction for MPT's diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) efforts, help coordinate high-level district-wide outreach and engagement strategies, actions and communication and facilitate MPT's DEI Team. This position promotes and implements the strategic direction set for MPT and reaffirms and fosters a climate that values and actively supports diversity, equity and inclusion. This position works in close collaboration with all levels of staff, leadership, external partners and communities to shape, promote and implement the strategic direction set for MPT. They will develop a comprehensive program that assures district-wide DEI principles are incorporated into all aspects of the employee and customer experiences. The position will be responsible for advancing the strategic direction and implementation of MPT's diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) program, collaborate with executive leadership and Human Resources and the DEI Team to create and implement DEI strategies, programs, events and training and serve as a resource for MPT's DEI Team. Provide technical assistance and policy direction for MPT's DEI program, review, evaluate and make DEI recommendations related to MPT's work practices, programs, policies and procedures, draft, monitor, track and update business cases, work plans and project schedules as needed. The MPT partners with numerous cultural organizations, social justice advocates, and nationally recognized institutions, including the Government Alliance for Race and Equity, Center for Social Innovation, and Welcoming Cities. In addition, we work in close collaboration with government and non-government entities in the region to create a socially just and equitable place for all. ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
Metro Parks Tacoma's Strategy and Governance Office seeks an Equity Officer to provide analytical and expert advice and consultation to executive management and internal departments regarding key equity related policy and program activities. This position will be responsible for implementing the goals of the Equity Plan and any policy framework adopted by MPT.
This position will help design, develop and implement tools to analyze policy, service, and workforce development to achieve the goals in the policy framework, including purposeful community outreach and engagement, equitable service delivery and equity in policy decisions. This position will work with department leaders to conduct equity impact and change analysis when implementing policies or initiatives that affect District program and service delivery. The position works with Human Resources staff on workforce development, with a focus on workplace barriers and inequities. Specifically, this position: Provide expertise on DEI training and use for staff and partners on identified projects;Provides analytical and expert advice and consultation to Executive leadership and division staff regarding Diversity, Equity and Inclusion goals, tools and policies;Actively coordinate, support and collaborate with the internal DEI Team and other affinity groups;Provide oversight, and help lead work plan development, training, implementation and tracking/monitoring;Formulates and implements long-range strategic plans, goals and policies related to the District's adoption of an Equity Action Plan;One of the primary goals of the 2018 Strategic Plan is that Metro Parks Tacoma workforce reflects the community it serves. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor degree required with 3 years of experience conducting research and analyzing policies, laws, rules, or regulations, conducting financial auditing and management studies, managing and overseeing programs, specialized or technical work processes, standards, regulations and systems. Master's degree desired.Must have a valid drivers license with acceptable driving record.

Knowledge & Skills Desired Skills: Ability to plan and implement workforce equity policy, projects and programs.Facilitate interactions and alignment between MPT Departments and groups committed to equity and diversity on behalf of Organizational Development & Human Resources, executive management, community groups, elected officials and outside organizations.Develop and implement training to advance workforce understanding and acceptance of equity, including racial equity, as a strategy for service delivery.Exercise diplomacy, independent initiative and judgment.Exhibit effective oral and written communications skills.Exercise strong critical thinking and analytic skills.Contribute positively to a diverse working environment.

Gather, assemble, analyze and evaluate facts to draw logical conclusions and make proper recommendations and prepare clear, concise, and comprehensive written reports which require displaying and presenting statistical, graphical, and other reporting methods to audiences of varying technical sophistication. Research: Effectively identify, collect, organize and document data and information in ways that make the information most useful for subsequent assessment, analysis, and investigation. Compile and maintain reports, records and various other forms of pertinent information in an organized and professional manner. Program Management Appropriately prioritize and concurrently provide guidance and consultation on multiple programs, integrating many factors into decisions, and ensuring that work progresses toward achieving goals and objectives.
