Olympia or downtown Seattle: You will have the choice of working in of our Seattle office, in beautiful and historic Pioneer Square, or our headquarters building in downtown Olympia, bordering the scenic South Capital neighborhood.

We are seeking a highly motivated project manager who will deliver advanced planning projects and studies; use sophisticated engagement and collaboration techniques; and develop actionable insights from data, analysis, research and community input. This position focuses on public transportation, which includes work on transit, mobility as a service, shared mobility, livability, sustainability, active transportation, inclusion, equity, transportation demand management, and multimodal transportation system performance. Projects include updates to the Statewide Public Transportation Plan, Statewide Human Services Transportation Plan, and Statewide Transportation Demand Management Action Plan.

This position will perform the following work:

  • Manage statewide plan updates and conduct advanced transportation studies.
  • Evaluate multidimensional and complex plans that have division, agency, or public transportation industry wide applications and impacts.
  • Provide planning advice to executives, agency staff and external partners.
  • Perform critical planning and program evaluations and lead the division's engagement in planning process by researching complex issues with a broad scope.
  • Engage communities, public transportation stakeholders, disadvantaged populations, businesses, employers and others in transportation planning activities.
  • Review statewide plans and planning procedures produced by others and provide comments and suggestions to improve.
  • Provide policy and strategy development, implementation and maintenance for key public transportation topics including disadvantaged populations, transit, active transportation, transportation demand management, and modal integration.

 
An ideal candidate for this position will have:

  • Bachelor's degree involving major study in transportation; landscape architecture; environmental or urban, regional or land use planning, engineering, public or business administration; economics, biology, natural or physical sciences; or public policy, political science, or administration; or related field.

AND

  • Four years' professional transportation experience involving analysis and evaluation of transportation issues and problems. Analysis of environmental issues and problems that involve policy analysis and policy development will also be considered qualifying experience. A master's degree in one of the above fields will substitute for one year of the required experience. A doctoral degree in law will also substitute for one year of the required experience.

OR

  • Two years as a Transportation Planning Specialist 3 or Transportation Engineer 3, Landscape Designer 3, or equivalent classification in city or county agencies.
  • American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) certification, or ability to obtain within a year.
